The Teacher Academy program, organized by Karaman Provincial Directorate of National Education, hosted an important event this week under the theme “City and Culture” to support the cultural and intellectual development of teachers. Held under the auspices of the Ministry of National Education, the event welcomed former Mayor of Karaman, writer, and poet Kamil Uğurlu, who engaged with educators in a memorable evening.

A Meaningful Dialogue on Urban Culture

Held at the Karaman Gazi Culture and Arts Center, the event attracted great interest from the education community and teachers. Kamil Uğurlu opened the evening by sharing his thoughts on Karaman’s historical texture, the significance of urban culture, and the influence of cultural heritage on social life. Uğurlu emphasized that urban culture reflects society and highlighted the essential role teachers play in preserving it. His insights ranged from Karaman’s historical structures and traditions to the impact of cultural events on the public and the construction of social memory.

Uğurlu expressed that educators have a responsibility to carry urban culture into the future, explaining that teachers serve as transmitters of these values not only within the classroom but also in social life. He emphasized the importance of education as a critical tool in preserving and passing down the values of urban culture to future generations.

A Night of Poetry and Literary Expression

In the second part of the event, Kamil Uğurlu recited his own poems, offering participants a literary feast. His poetry, which reflects his love for Karaman and the cultural richness of Anatolia, created deeply emotional moments for the educators. Through his verses, Uğurlu conveyed his personal memories and cultural values associated with Karaman, taking the audience on a profound literary journey.

Participants experienced a meaningful connection between literature and urban culture through Uğurlu’s poetry. The evening concluded with Uğurlu answering questions from the teachers, providing a platform for educators to share their personal experiences and connections to their cities. Uğurlu’s storytelling and poetry were warmly received, making a significant impression on the attendees.

The program concluded with Karaman Deputy Provincial Director of National Education, Abdurrahman Kurt, presenting a commemorative gift to Kamil Uğurlu. This special event was regarded as a meaningful step toward strengthening teachers' cultural connections.
